Soulful pop artist Hunter Moreau releases single and video for 'Hazy'
Hunter Moreau believes everyone should strive to be more in touch with the vulnerable parts of themselves. And Hunter Moreau practices what she preaches. Through her music, the soulful pop songstress frequently steps outside of her comfort zone to express the most vulnerable parts of herself, captivating listeners along the way. Her newest single, “Hazy,” is no exception. Produced by Doug Schadt (Maggie Rogers, Ashe, SHAED), “Hazy” officially dropped on March 12.
"As simple as it may sound, 'Hazy' is about the pure bliss of summer nights,” shares Moreau. “Doug and I were reminiscing about stories with friends, both new and old, and the magic that seems to happen on warm nights where nothing seems to really matter. We wrote this song to capture the nostalgia of looking back on those carefree times, and longing for that same feeling again. The feeling that no other moment matters besides right now. The excitement of not caring how exactly you’re going to get home, or where you even are, but just knowing that you want whatever feeling this is to last forever."
Born and raised in Mattapoisett, Massachusetts (population 6,000) – a seaside town near Cape Cod - Moreau began taking voice lessons at eight years old. Though Mattapoisett is both small and distinctly quaint, Hunter will tell you that her hometown has fueled her love for music in a myriad of ways.
At 12, Hunter auditioned for Showstoppers, a community service singing troupe based in Mattapoisett.
“Much to my excitement, I made it in,” shares Hunter. “And for the next six years of my life, I spent hours upon hours practicing with the group and performing at charities, festivals, nursing homes, and assisted living centers all across the state. The group taught me about the real value of music, as well as its incredible healing power. I experienced firsthand the love you can receive and give from performing, and how music uplifts people. The group taught me everything and for that I am truly grateful.”
Now, Hunter uses what she learned with Showstoppers to craft her own music – a refreshing blend of Indie, Pop, and Soul.
Her debut single “Drive In” and its accompanying video officially dropped in November of 2019. Hunter wrote the song at 16 years old after an intense 11-hour surgery that removed a precancerous cyst from her bile duct. The song quickly amassed well over 100k streams on Spotify and caught the attention of veteran music managers Ron Shapiro and Joe Hegleman (Regina Spektor, Melanie Martinez, UPSAHL).
Influenced by artists like Stevie Nicks, Harry Styles, and Frank Ocean, Hunter is fiercely committed to being unapologetically herself. With authenticity and raw emotion, she uses her music to make sense of life’s unavoidable complexities.
“It’s always been my dream to reach as many people in as many places as possible with my music,” shares Hunter. “I’m putting all of my time and energy into turning that dream into a reality. I look forward to leaving my tiny little town for a while so I can share what I’m creating with the world.”
